You don’t have to like him to grasp the essential point.

Lowering the flag to half-staff isn’t applause for someone’s ideas.

It’s a simple public gesture that says three clear things when the noise tries to swallow everything: a life was taken, political violence is unacceptable, the rule of law stands. Full stop.
